Two iphones in the family

April 3, 2009 in Gear, Internet by Kyle Yates

As of last week, we are now the proud owners of two lovely iPhones. We traded in our old not-so-user-friendly-compared-to-iPhone phones and now look back at the other phones as the type of phones we will never lay ears on again.

How anyone can forego owning and using an iPhone is beyond me unless money is a problem. Still, iPhones can be purchased these days for next to nothing…at least here in Japan. Denise got hers for 0 yen, the current campaign for Softbank users and those who are not, if they don’t mind owning the 8 gigabyte model.

Since we got our iPhones, two of our friends have bought them. Others are also contemplating the move.

If you own the more archaic phones like we used to, you may want to rethink changing to an iPhone and give your old phone to your kids as a digital camera like we did.

iPhones are really good tools besides the fact that they are phones. You can add applications, also known as apps, that will help you accomplish your daily chores more easily.

A few apps I’m using are for good keeping my work schedule, recording messages, emailing, browsing the Internet, blogging – currently using it write this blog article – recipes, a dictionary, todos, and the list goes on.

If you don’t have an iPhone, go to your cellular phone dealer when you get the next opportunity and ask them if you can try out an iPhone. I truly believe you we be happy you changed to one.

A New Backpack for Work!

September 19, 2006 in Gear by Kyle Yates

[inspic=76,left,fullscreen,thumb]Since I teach all over Kansai, ride the train to most places and drive to others, I need a bag to carry my books and teaching supplies. In order to do this, I need a good bag.

One trip to New Zealand, I bought a really good bag in Auckland by a company in New Zealand. It lasted a long time. But eventually the zipper broke.

The next bag, my most recent one, I bought in America for really cheap. It was a good bag, but on sale. $15 to be exact! That’s dirt cheap! Anyhow, it was great. I loved all the pockets and compartments, and the fact that it had a compartment for my notebook PC. It was very strong. I carried all sorts of stuff in it. At times, it must have weighed around 25 kgs, if not more when the computer was in it. But eventually, it too had a zipper break.

Man, can’t anyone make a zipper that doesn’t somehow break?

Today, I got a new bag. Hopefully, this one will last a long time and will not have a zipper break. It is my birthday gift from my mom, sister and brother-in-law and couldn’t have come at a better time. I bought this one a Costco in Amagasaki. Since Costco has really good warrantees on their stuff, if it breaks, I should be able to get it replaced or repaired relatively cheaply. Pray it doesn’t break though! It’s a really nice one and has a compartment for just about anything.
